Bynum Front Porch is a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve the history, identity and supportive atmosphere of the village of Bynum.

 Bynum Front Porch is expanding its programming and activities this year and needs the support and help of many volunteers. Below is a list of the volunteer needs determined by each committee within Bynum Front Porch.

Bynum Front Porch Music Series Committee needs a total of 34 volunteers to help set-up and breakdown during the course of the Music Series which starts Friday, May 2nd through August 29th, 2008. Each Friday night the Music Series relies on 2 volunteers and a Bynum Front Porch board member to operate the Bynum Front Porch Music Series.

In addition to our Music Series this year, Bynum Front Porch Art Committee will be hosting 2 local artists to exhibit their artwork in the Bynum General Store during each Friday night Music Series. Bynum Front Porch needs a total of 34 volunteers to help these artists set-up and breakdown their shows during the course of the Music Series which starts Friday, May 2nd through August 29th, 2008 (NO CONCERT on JULY 4th). Each Friday night the Music Series will need 2 volunteers to help our local artists exhibit their work. Bynum Front Porch will be hosting House Concerts during our off season of our Music Series in the Bynum General Store. Bynum Front Porch needs a total of 12 volunteers for the entire House Concert series. Each House Concert relies on 3 volunteers, who will help sell and take tickets at the door, sell bake goods and direct guests where to park. Dates for the upcoming House Concerts are September 9th, 2008, November 8th, 2008, January 9th, 2009 and March 9th, 2009.

                   Bynum Front Porch’s Historical/Documentary Committee needs the following volunteers:

Photographers

Researchers to comb the archives of interviews and photos at the Southern Historical Collection at UNC

Exhibitors: volunteers to help Bynum Front Porch decide how to archive and display historical materials.

Oral History and Life review interviewers

Collectors: volunteers to help locate more photos and historical artifacts to archive at the Bynum General Store

Transcribers: volunteers to transcribe interviews after they are recorded

Scrapebookers: volunteers to put together scrapebooks of articles and photos from the Music Series concerts and other Bynum Front Porch events

                    Bynum Front Porch’s Operation’s Committee needs the following volunteers:

6 or more volunteers to form a building committee

6 or more volunteers to form a grounds keeping committee

As many volunteers to help out on Bynum Front Porch Work Days: Days to be posted on www.bynumfrontporch.org.

8 to 10 volunteers to do mowing of the Bynum Front Porch grounds

Recycling and Trash Pickup: Come by the store Saturday mornings and pick up recycling/trash for the store.

Bynum Front Porch’s Executive Committee needs the following volunteers:

CPA: Consult with the treasurer and executive committee to maintain financial records, provide appropriate tax counsel, and help to develop monetary tracking methods. Time needed: Ongoing, 1 - 2 hours per month, with potentially more at the outset.

Lawyer: Work with executive committee to file appropriate 501c3 paperwork and provide ongoing counsel with ongoing organization/board activities. Time frame: Ongoing, 1- 2 hours per month.

Community Outreach: Help to disseminate flyers and organization information at larger community events including, but not limited to, ClydeFest April 26th in Bynum and Pittsboro Street Fair October 25th in Pittsboro; Estimated time frame: 2 to 4 hours, 1- 2 times per year.

Saturday Morning Sitters: Open and man the Bynum General Store, Saturdays from 9am - 2pm, to allow community members and visitors to visit the store. Sitters will open store to encourage community gathering and field questions about store/organization and ongoing activities. Coffee and snacks are sold by donation jar. Time frame: Needed every 2nd and 3rd Saturday throughout the year.

Advertising/PR/Branding Committee

Web Administrator: Web/Computer Knowledge as well as "content management systems" experience in order to update content on the Bynum Front Porch website.

Advertising Coordinator: Researching and pricing out advertising opportunities (print, multi-media, radio, etc.)with our Non-profit status. Contacting local vendors regarding sponsorship opportunities. Working along side the PR and Branding Coordinators.

Kid’s Programming Committee

Kids Entertainers during the Bynum Front Porch Music Series ie. Storytellers, Musicians, Arts and Crafts from 7pm to 8pm every second and fourth Friday.

Adult Volunteers to watch the kids that attend Bynum Kids Movie Night at the Bynum General Store to be held on Saturday Evenings from 6 to 8:30.
